Stillness

This is my stillness.  It is raining outside, im dressed not to the nines but dressed to prevent the wet and cold to seep into my body, my boots black, shiny and hi-fashion to some are worn to work.  The air is damp, quiet, with every once in a while a sigh will escape emitting an eerie puff of white that surrounds and envelopes one in the smell of warm days and sweet grass.

My movements are rythmic and precise with the flexion and extension of a body that was a dancer at one time and the rythmn awakens the memory that has been locked away for a very long time. Bend, reach, releve, turn and release.

This is my stillness.  This is part of my day, where no spoken word is uttered for hours. A sigh, a breath, a drink of liquids, a bite to replenish.  All is calm, all is good.  This moment, has no moment. I am cocooned in a place that could be any place. This is my place of meditation.  This is a place not of glamour or busyness, this is a place of solitude and warmth.  This is a place where the bodies of many warm the bodies of all.

This is my of stillness. When my time here is finished i turn to look around, drink in the warmth, the dampness, call out to the inhabitants each by name, till we meet again.  Till i return to my place of stillness, my place of dance, my place of meditation.

To be or not to be Vegan, Raw Foodie, Vegetarian, Is it a choice?

Not only are the health benefits amazing, yes including that wieght loss stuff, but…it is also for the animals.  If everyone knew how animals are “factory farmed” in order for us to continue our “meaty” ways everyone would either DEMAND tougher laws on factory farming, especially around downer animals, battery cages, veal crates and birthing crates, and/or help the independent organic farmers more!

I was one of those people that refused to really become aware of where and how our food is brought to our lives.  I’ve been the type of person that said the same old same old, “I’ll never give up meat, i wouldn’t get enough protein” blah, blah, blah. When I started to research/read i have never been so so sad, disheartened, appalled and thankful for someone finally opening my eyes to real truth behind the meat industry and to the benefits of great, great food.

I now know that vegetables, fruit, legumes, grains, nuts can and will provide you with the best nutrition without the meat.  Actually, once you do the research, meat, eggs, milk, and the white stuff (sugar, pasta, rice)is not as nutritional as you would assume.

It is time the world realized that the animals you see on commercials are actually cariactures of what the animals are that are “farmed”.  What blows my mind more than anything is that humans/people have become so inhumane, violent and desensitized to the pain and suffering we inflict on these animals.  Where male calves are taking away from their mothers the first week of their little lives and put into cages so small and dark with NO interaction with other calves to fatten them up for our VEAL.  When animals are so sick that they can’t get up off the floor of their “pens” so they are left there to die and put on the dead pile and sometimes the animals are not yet dead and they are put on the dead pile to be left to suffer (downers), where chickens in order to lay eggs are put in cages so small that they can’t stretch their wings they are on wire cages and their legs and feet atrophy in order to produce our EGGS, chickens have their beaks cut off so they won’t peak other chickens in order for us to have roasting HENS, where cows are feed an abhorrent amount of antibiotics, steroids, etc in order to produce massive amounts of MILK, where beef cattle become so large in order to produce our MEAT that their legs give out on them and then they are slaughtered.  I can’t begin to explain what happends to pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys or what happens at the slaughter houses, it is too sickening. After the animals are slaughtered for human consumption the rest is cooked up and ground with road kill, yes road kill or other animal control animals, euthanized pets, to be made into cosmetics, candles, soaps, lubricants and then the heavier is ground up into a powder and feed to our back to our animals including our farmed animals.  Does this make sense, NOT TO ME…most farm animals are herbivores, not omnivores or even cannibals.

I realize that becoming a vegan, vegetarian, raw foodie is a choice, but once you start reading books such as Farm Sanctuary, Mad Cow, Skinny Bitches, Dominion, etc., watch documentaries, watch dvd’s (Earthlings) they are violent and graphic but you will realize there is actually no choice.

What i want from everyone is to start becoming educated, don’t turn a blind eye, rip the band-aid off (by the way animals as used as test subjects for band aids, gross) and start to ask questions, read, read, read and become involved, don’t be a follower, start reading packaging ie lanolin is made from sheep and urea is pee!

So thank you to Gabie, Tanya, Shawna and the people that write the books, fight for legislation to change laws, the protestors, etc.  I have now joined the campaign.

Compassion or is it Domination….Read with Caution

How can we say that we are a compassionate society when….

1. We allow the slaughter of dolphins

2. We allow the slaughter of whales

3. We allow the raping of our Galapogus Islands

4. We allow the maming and drowning of sharks just for their fins

5. We allow the inhumane way of how animals are raised for our consumption

6. We allow the treatment of individuals who are on social assistance/welfare to be treated lesser than human

7. We allow dog fighting

8. We allow the mistreatment of horses, dogs, lions, bulls and other creatures for our amusement

9. We allow the destruction of our oceans, forests, lands and northern climates for the sake of greed

10. We allow children to go to school hungry

11. We allow children to become slaves in order for us to satisfy our chocolate cravings

12. We allow women to work for less than $1.00 a day to satisfy our lust for fashion

13. We don’t allow men or our boys to show their true feelings whether in love, sadness, happiness

14. We allow our government to not be accountable to their people who voted them in vs big corporations

15. We allow greed to exist

16. We allow poverty to exist

17. We allow countries to sell their children and women for sex

18. We allow extreme violence to dominate our intellect

19. We allow skyscrapers to dominate vs wind farms to generate

20. We allow so much to interfer with love, humility, acceptance, a life of sustainability, a life of peace and good-good will towards all living creatures winged, finned, multi-legged, 4-legged, 2-legged…..UTOPIA maybe, but wouldn’t compassion be a much better place to live than domination

Think about it

Become

We cannot become what we want to be

…by remaining what we are….

Ballet…the body beautiful #3
The last three photos depict the artform of ballet.  I am in awe of ballet dancers, for their athletic prowness that they must display even in the most simpliest of forms.

We are truly embedded into the Technology Era and with that like all other eras, we loose a bit of the past and one of them is the art of letter writing; of sitting down with pen, paper and a dictionary and composing; then addressing the envelope in hand script; placing a stamp on the envelope and with one kiss mailing it off.
In this Technology based instant gratification era, we have lost the passion for true letter writing.  Of writing period. Of being aware of our grammer and sentence structure.
The art of making perfectly formed letters.  The art of letter writting.  Where when you finish a sentence you placed a period, not a smiley face.  Or you actually wrote the words laughed out loud not lol!  What have we done to the written word or even the spoken word?  Our language, our beautiful language.  When we hear people speak a different language we marvel at the mere fact that their language is so rythmic and fluid.  I feel our language can be the same if we pronounced each word correctly when we spoke.  The same as when we are writing.
If you have been so fortunate as to keep letters from the past, we read the letters that our grandparents have written to our parents we marvel at the beautiful, articulate letters.  How each letter joined the next.  How there were paragraphs, sentences, when a thought changed so did the paragraph.  How at the end of the letter it read I hope all is well with you.  Give my love to everyone. Love Grandma or Grandpa and an xo beside it.
Is this lost?  I am hoping there will be a revival of this art form.  When you go to a store to buy vellum, embossed,  or hand made paper, a beautiful writting instrument and you sit down and compose, then you mail it and wait for a reply.
I would love to receive a hand-written letter in the mail.  To know that someone took the time, energy and love to write.
Write to me I would love to hear from you.
